Pashtun Community Raises Concerns Over Pathan Portrayal in Aap Ki Izzat

Aap Ki Izzat has attracted attention once again, but this time the discussion is focused on its portrayal of a Pashtun character. Members of the Pashtun community have expressed strong concerns about scenes they believe present Pathan culture and family life through negative stereotypes.

Aap Ki Izzat Faces Backlash Over Pashtun Character

The Pakistani drama, written by Umera Ahmed, directed by Saifi Hasan and produced by Momina Duraid, revolves around Beena, a woman dealing with betrayal after her husband marries another woman.

As part of the storyline, Beena becomes involved with a Pashtun vegetable seller. Viewers have criticised the character’s depiction as greedy and deceptive, particularly because his actions become an important part of the revenge-driven storyline.

The criticism has extended beyond the character’s behaviour. Social media users have also questioned the way his clothing, home environment and family circumstances are presented.

Viewers Object to Stereotypical Representation

According to the criticism shared by the Pashtun Pakhtoon Facebook page, the character is shown wearing a shalwar and shawl without a shirt, while his wife and children are depicted in visibly impoverished conditions.

The post argued that such scenes can create a limited and negative impression of Pashtun society and culture. It also questioned the repeated use of characters associated with Pashtun identity in storylines involving dishonesty, crime or other controversial behaviour.

Some commenters called for greater cultural sensitivity when Pakistani dramas portray ethnic communities.

Pashtun Community Seeks Explanation

The social media post urged the drama’s production team to explain the controversial portrayal and make appropriate corrections where necessary. It also called for cultural consultation when representing Pashtun traditions, values and social life in future television projects.

The discussion has sparked a wider conversation among Pakistani drama viewers about ethnic representation, cultural stereotypes and responsible storytelling.

Social Media Reactions

Several social media users criticised the portrayal, with some calling for action against the writer, producer and director. Others argued that the issue reflects a broader concern about how Pashtun characters have historically been represented in Pakistani entertainment.

At the same time, these reactions represent the views expressed by individual social media users and community pages rather than an official statement from the drama’s production team.

For now, the controversy has added another layer to the ongoing discussion surrounding Aap Ki Izzat, with viewers closely watching whether the makers respond to the Pashtun community’s concerns.
