Surprisingly, the shopkeeper refused to charge him for the suitcase, even though it was quite expensive.
He further recalled visiting a local market where he bought clothes for his wife. The shopkeeper refused to take payment after learning that Shiv was from Ludhiana, India. Instead, he treated him to a milkshake and spent nearly one and a half hours sharing emotional stories of his grandmother from the time of Partition, making Shiv feel like a family member rather than a guest.
